After a Columbia Law School report recently revealed major shortcomings in how the UN aviation body (ICAO) interprets transparency and public participation requirements, the article at hand points out the irony that delegates in current negotiations in Bonn and Montreal deal with interlinked climate issues while necessarily being aware (or even complicit) of the ICAO’s practices, but not disclosing them. The publisher urges the ICAO parties that are also party to the Aarhus Convention to adhere to their disclosure obligations under the latter. It does so, by quoting a number of stakeholders and warning about a major potential infringement of the Paris Agreement.
