A joint European Commission and Make it Work workshop will be held on 19-20 November 2015 in Brussels (Maison des Associations Internationales, Rue Washington 40 / Washingtonstraat 40) to discuss principles for smart monitoring and reporting. Information concerning this workshop is provided through url above. To provide some background, information is essential to developing, implementing and evaluating environmental legislation. However, collecting information (monitoring) and transferring information (reporting) often require substantial efforts. Both are clearly set out in the context of the Better Regulation policy of the Commission. The Commission and the Member States active in the Make it Work project are keen to identify opportunities for ensuring monitoring and reporting provides the correct information in the most resource efficient way. A joint Commission and Make it Work workshop in November 2015 aims to contribute to establishing principles for smart monitoring and reporting. These principles will feed into ongoing and future work on reviewing existing monitoring and reporting.Note: 'Monitoring' is understood here to refer to the collection of data, facts or evidence for the purposes of meeting reporting obligations defined under EU environmental law.
