Participants in this Asia-Europe Environment Forum 2005 Workshop found that Asian countries face many challenges for establishing freedom of information laws considered vital for promoting sustainable development. Representatives of the Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development (APFED), experts on the Aarhus Convention, and officials of government and other relevant organizations emphasised the necessity of regional collaborations, national initiatives and partnership among stakeholders.
