Working with the Media: WHCA Action Guide

The guide aims to help health communicators to become more media-wise, to work actively and effectively with the media to advocate for healthier behaviours, choices and policies. The guide’s 12 chapters provide the questions that need to be resolved when devising a media strategy and policy, give insight into how the media operate and describe the practicalities of writing press releases and preparing for press conferences and media interviews. Later chapters deal with the responsibilities associated with providing the public with reliable information via the media, and deal with campaign planning and evaluation, and social marketing. With a list of useful web links and ready-to-complete media contact sheets. Although written mainly for health advocates, the information provided should also prove useful for agencies working in the field of environment and health communication, including those launching national pollutant registers. Working with the Media is a joint publication of World Health Communication Associates, the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA), EEN and The Media Wise Trust. Available in hardcopy format for free in English, or as downloadable pdfs in English, French, German, Russian and Spanish.
