What are the opportunities for Georgia in a new Green Economy?

To highlight the challenges and opportunities for Georgia in the new 'Green Economy' and to foster public dialogue on inclusive social and economic development, the UNDP Global Compact Project is organizing an opinion paper discussion in Tblisi. A paper by Mr. Zaal Lomtadze, Chair of the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy, entitled “What are the opportunities for Georgia in a new Green Economy?” will serve as the basis for the policy dialogue, and consequently, as a recommendation for further action by government and other stakeholders. The primary focus of the paper is on the role that the private sector could play through its core business processes, and on opportunities for its more comprehensive engagement in the country’s development, in collaboration with other stakeholders. The Committee on Environmental Policy is overseeing preparation of the 7th Ministerial Conference 'Environment for Europe' in Astana, Kazakhstan, in autumn 2011. The Astana Conference is expected to focus on the themes of integrated water resource management and green economy. The paper is also available in Georgian at http://www.cenn.org/wssl/uploads/home/undp_geo_3_UNDP.pdf.
