UNDP Bosnia and Herzegovina: Eco-Justice project

Eco-Justice project aims to strengthen the environmental rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina by improving access to environmental justice, promoting human rights and supporting people-centered environmental public policies and services.

The project components included:

  1. Harmonize the legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the European Union acquis - Support for drafting the necessary legislative changes to the environmental laws and criminal codes, to ensure their harmonization with the European Union environmental acquis.
  2. Strengthen procedural framework for law enforcement agencies - Develop clear standard operating procedures for coordination and responses to environmental incidents and accidents, by law enforcement agencies.
  3. Advance training curriculum for students and practitioners - Integrated changes to the judicial and prosecutorial training curriculum, whereby the inclusion of environmental criminal law training would improve the capacity for its enforcement in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  4. Improve the understanding and exercise of environmental human rights - Environmental human rights are understood, adequately mapped and reported.
