Round table devoted to the survey on Access to Justice issues under the Aarhus Convention

The criterion of rule of law existence sometimes is the ability of a certain society to provide solutions to particular situation that are peculiar rather than common. That are quality leading solutions both for legal system and for the prosperity of the society on the whole. To one of that kind of solutions was dedicated the round table in ELRC on March 27th which had an aim to present to the concerned stakeholders the country results of the survey being implemented under the auspicious of the Task Force on Access to Justice established by the 5th Session of the Meeting of the Parties (National expert - Gor Movsisyan). The survey is launched for EECCA countries to highlight the obstacles citizens, their groups and environmental NGOs may encounter while initiating litigation to protect public environmental interests. The first synthesis of the report will be discussed during the upcoming meeting of the Task Force on June 17-18 in UN (Geneva) and the final results will be circulated during the Meeting of the Parties to the Aarhus Convention.On the whole the survey revealed some serious obstacles both on the legislation level and the law enforcement practice. The relevant solutions on both levels are deemed highly necessary to provide access to the aforementioned entities in environmental matters.
