Resolution on access to information, public participation in decision-making and access to justice in environmental matters

Adopted at the 4th Ministerial Conference "Environment-for-Europe" in Aarhus, Denmark in June 1998, the Resolution calls upon Signatories to the Aarhus Convention to strive for early entry into force and requests the ECE Committee on Environmental Policy actively promote ratification, among other requests. It recommends that non-government organizations should be allowed to participate effectively in the preparation of instruments on environmental protection by other intergovernmental organizations. This recommendation was later expanded upon in Almaty Guidelines on public participation in international forums.
