Public Interest Test

This guidance is one of a series addressing how public authorities are to meet their obligations under the UK Freedom of Information Act 2000. The Test requires the decision-maker to take public interest considerations into account when deciding whether to release information even where a qualified exemption applies. The Aarhus Convention (Art. 4, paragraph 4) contains a public interest test. See also the related publication, 'Balancing the Public Interest'.
