Every individual EU citizen or resident or anyone having business with the EU has the right to petition the European Parliament if they believe that a piece of EU legislation has not been properly transposed (i.e. brought in to national legislation) or applied or there is a need for a particular piece of new legislation. Individuals may address these complaints and concerns to the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament. The Petitions Committee also receives petitions about proposed developments where an Environmental Impact Assessment has not been properly carried out or where a Natura 2000 site of special ecological significance may be damaged. Petitions can be lodged on-line via the European Parliament website or by writing directly to the Committee Secretariat. The process is free.
