CEC is an international organization created by the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, the environmental side agreement to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), signed by Canada, Mexico and the US. The CEC's mandate is to facilitate cooperation and public participation to foster conservation, protection and enhancement of the North American environment, in the context of increasing economic trade and social links between the NAFTA partners. The CEC administers the North American Fund for Environmental Cooperation, a source of funding for community-based environmental projects.
