LIFE (L'Instrument Financier pour l'Environnement) cofinances environmental initiatives in the European Union and certain third countries bordering on the Mediterranean and the Baltic Sea and in central and east European countries. The LIFE Regulation defines five areas eligible for funding: land-use development and planning; water management; reduction of the environmental impact of economic activities; waste management; and reduction of the environmental impact of products through an integrated product policy. LIFE-Nature finances nature conservation projects.
