The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) is celebrated annually on 22 May to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on 22 May 1992. The theme for the 2025 edition is "Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development." This year's campaign aims to highlight the linkages between the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Goals and Targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). The campaign seeks to foster wide support for the implementation of the Convention, its Protocols, and related action frameworks.
By organizing or attending local IDB 2025 celebrations, including in-person events, workshops or webinars, stakeholders can play a part in explaining, discussing or advocating for accelerated action to achieve the SDGs and the KMGBF targets by 2030, including Target 17. The Parties are also encouraged to fill out their 5th National Report.
Stakeholders can use the event submission form to announce their event and let the world know. Mobilize and galvanize for people and nature.
Selected biosafety IDB events will also be made available in the Bulletin Board and the biosafety social media platforms.
