German National Strategy for Sustainable Development

This speech by Ms. Gila Altmann, Parliamentary State Secretary, Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, argues that it is a prerequisite to organize civil society to serve and protect the people in their environment. The engagement of civil society in the German National Strategy for Sustainable Development is fostered by providing recognized NGOs with opportunities to participate in the decision-making process and financial support. In this context, the Aarhus Convention is found to be particularly and increasingly significant in German law and practice.
