VCI represents the politico-economic interests of 1,600 German chemical companies and German subsidiaries of foreign enterprises in contacts with politicians, public authorities, other industries, the world of science and the media. In Germany there are 8 VCI regional associations. Numerous VCI member companies are additionally organised in 30 sector groups and sector associations who are corporate members of VCI. VCI's web site contains English documents on EU chemicals policy, including the trade group's proposal to combine exposure categories with a minimum chemicals data set as an alternative to the European Commission proposal, known as REACH, to assess all 30,000 market-relevant chemical substances in respect of their risk to humans and the environment.
