Friends of the Irish Environment (FIE) is a network of environmentalists who work as volunteers to lobby for more sustainable policies and actions in Ireland. As the new Access to Information on the Environment Directive is due to be implemented in Ireland on 14 February 2005, FIE has published its recommendations to COMHAR, The National Sustainable Development Partnership, on what changes are needed from the present 1998 Regulations. Based on research and a workshop of some of the country’s leading environmental campaigners, the work explains both the function of the Regulations and their relationship to the Aarhus Convention. The FIE site also features The Irish Papers Today and a live news feed, and contains more than 150,000 links to environmental and related information.
