Earth Overshoot Day (also known as Ecological Debt Day) is the day we, as a global community, begin living beyond the means of what the planet can regenerate in a calendar year, according to the Ecological Footprint Network. Ecological Footprint accounting can be used to determine the exact date each year when the Planet's resource budget is crossed. Citizens can the Footprint interactive calculator to determine their own Ecological Footprint and learn how to reduce it. The Footprint Network project is a participatory device for educating and activating the public on sustainable consumption.
