The 2008 session of the Council of Europe’s Forum for the Future of Democracy was held in Madrid from 15 to 17 October 2008. The main theme was “e-democracy”. Six parallel workshops dealed with the specific sub-themes, including e-participation, e-participation at local and regional level, ICT in electoral processes, e-inclusion, e-democracy from the grass roots and the international and regulatory context of e-democracy. Among other issues the participants discussed the role of e-activism and e-campaigning which have boomed in the last years and are becoming a key dimension of political life. The session also assessed recent developments and challenges on e-voting. The meeting was organized by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Spanish Public Administration Ministry and the support of the City of Madrid.
