Declaration on Environmental Cohesion of Western Balkans as the Tool for Sustainable Development (2nd Draft)

The Declaration prepared by regional NGOs urges the strengthening of regional capacities for environmental management and ratification of multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), particularly UNECE Conventions and their Protocols, as well as MEAs signed in 2003 at the Fifth Environment-for-Europe Ministerial Conference, in Kiev. It recommends accelerating regional implementation of agreements and securing further development and implementation of sub-regional agreements. It further calls for partnerships with NGOs, to foster environmental education, including the establishment of an educational institution dedicated to promoting environment and sustainable development in Western Balkan region. It also requests development of an efficient judicial system for environment and sustainable development, including establishment of a special Environmental Court.
