Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)

The Convention's rules of procedure on the participation of specialized agencies and bodies of the United Nations and of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations promotes public engagement in its development, and its implementation and monitoring. The CEDAW Committee is a mechanism where gender experts, not governments, receive progress reports, hold hearings (that include the reporting government as well as civil society representativess from the country) and comment on reports providing assessments and recommendations for the future.
