Assessing and Strengthening Civil Society Worldwide provides a detailed account of the project approach, conceptual and analytical framework and research methodology of the CIVICUS Civil Society Index (CSI) Project. The author describes the principles that inform the project, its potential contributions to civil society practice and situates the CSI project within the broader field of civil society strengthening initiatives and research studies. The CSI is a participatory needs assessment and action planning tool for civil society in countries around the world, with the aim of creating a knowledge base and momentum for civil society strengthening initiatives.
