Aarhus Convention - Environmental democracy

On 24 February 2005, the UK ratified the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-Making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (The Aarhus Convention). The Convention is an important measure to ensure 'environmental democracy' throughout the UNECE region. Ratification will allow the UK to re-confirm its commitment to these principles. The DEFRA site includes information on the Convention and related Partnership for Principle 10 (PP10), EC directives implementing the Convention's provisions at the Community level, UK Environmental Information Regulations 2004 - SI 2004/3391 and consultations on these regulations.(Original source: http://www.defra.gov.uk//environment/internat/aarhus/index.htm)
