Aarhus compliance mechanism training

The Aarhus Convention compliance mechanism is a powerful tool in the hands of citizens and civil society organisations. To use it efficiently, citizens need to know what to do when they have a problem of not getting information, how to prepare a communication, whom to ask for advice, what to do if your communication is admitted and attendance at the Committee meeting is required. To respond to these questions, the European ECO Forum first organised a special training workshop in 2007. The content of the training was prepared by the European ECO Forum compliance team (focal points) - Andriy Andrusevich, Thomas Alge and Yves Lador, who also are assisting organisations to prepare communications to the Compliance Committee. A second training workshop will be held in December 2008. It will seriously look at the implementation of the Aarhus Meeting of the Parties' decisions concerning compliance. The meeting will take place in Geneva starting from 16 to 19 December 2008, in parallel with the next meeting of the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee meeting. Participants may also attend public sessions of the Compliance Meeting.
