Fair Use doctrine

Under U.S. law, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. The "Fair Use" doctrine has developed through a substantial number of court decisions over the years and is widely used by Internet information providers and NGOs providing electronic information to the public.
