The article deals with the declaration of a project as of strategic interest for the Canaries with procedural effects on public participation. Canary Islands Government is entitled to set their own project deadlines as just happened with five projects: a hotel, two biomass plants, a water park as well as a wind farm. It is argued that these declarations contravene rights on public participation in decision-making granted by the Aarhus Convention.
