One of the principal priorities within the program of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia is providing support to the civil society initiatives and efforts aimed at sustainable development in Central Asia, as well as ensuring community involvement in environmental efforts. The CAREC conducted a survey of non-governmental organizations within the five Central Asian Republics in order to improve and enhance partnership relations. The survey was designed to study the status of non-governmental environmental organizations, their needs, capacity and mechanisms of cooperation with them. The survey covered over 150 NGOs and initiative groups implementing environmental programs in Central Asia.
