Danube Regional Project Enhancing Access to Information and Public Participation in Environmental Decision Making

The Danube Regional Project will strengthen public access to information and participation at different levels concerning water pollution-related issues in the Danube Basin. At the national level, it will help to build the capacities of responsible government authorities of five Danube countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, and Serbia and Montenegro) to provide water-related environmental information to the public. It will also reinforce community involvement in solving water pollution-related issues at selected local "hot spots" in the Danube River Basin. The project will be implemented between 2004 and 2006 by the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), New York University (NYU) and Resources for the Future (RRF) in close partnership with the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), national authorities in the participating countries, and the Danube Environmental Forum (DEF).
