Switzerland: Swiss Courts Rapped By Top UN Official Over Taib Family SLAPP Suit Against BMF

The Bruno Manser Fund (BMF), a Swiss NGO that investigates and reports on environmental harms and corruption, is being sued for defamation by Sean Murray, the Canadian son-in-law of Sarawak Governor Abdul Taib Mahmud. Murray claims that BMF's reporting on the Taib family's alleged corruption and environmental harms is false and damaging to his reputation. The UN Special Rapporteur on Environmental Defenders has condemned the Swiss courts for allowing Murray's SLAPP suit to drag on for years and has urged them to dismiss it immediately.
