Article: Are climate activists protected by the Aarhus Convention? A note on Article 3(8) Aarhus Convention and the new Rapid Response Mechanism for environmental defenders

The article analyses the scope of article 3 (8) the ECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention) prohibiting harassment, penalization or persecution of people exercising their rights under the Convention, the rapid response mechanism recently established by the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention for environmental defenders and its guarantees, with a specific focus on the protection of diverse forms of climate activism.
