The Civil Society Index (CSI) is a research project that assesses the state of civil society in approximately 54 countries(2003-2006). The goals of the project areto enhance the sustainability of civil society and to promote and strengthen its contribution towards positive social change. In Armenia, a Community Survey in six communities, Regional Stakeholder Consultations and a review of key media supported the development of the Armenian CSI project report. An analysis of 4500 civil society organisations (CSOs) in Armenia, which include not only NGOs but also a wide range of other community organisations and actors, shows that a wide range of public activities and associations exist within the Armenian social-political scene. The nearly 25 identified civil society ecological organisations were found to be among the most active, yet suffer from financial constraints and a public backlash against their anti-nuclear campaign activities.(Original source: http://www.civicusbeta.org/media/ArmeniaCountryReport.pdf)
