In the past 30 years, the European Union (EU) has adopted a substantial and diverse range of environmental measures aimed at improving the quality of the environment for European citizens in order to offer a high quality of life. Over 200 legal acts cover environmental issues, including water, air, nature, biodiversity, waste, and chemicals. A substantial amount of court cases address the EU’s legal framework. The Caselex online information service reports on such cases, thus allowing legal professionals and policy makers to monitor the application of EU environmental law and to find guidance on its practical application. The Caselex project is an eTEN-funded project which is coordinated by the Institute of Legal Information Theory and Techniques (ITTIG) of the National Research Institute in Italy.
