This written statement submitted by an Argentine non-governmental organization in special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, endorses the recommendations for the Continuation of the Mandate of the UN Special Representative on Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and Other Business Practices. It was submitted in response to the UN Special Representative's report released on 7 April 2008 which found that "the root cause of the business and human rights predicament today lies in the governance gap created by globalization." "Reducing the governance gap in each forum, and infusing the over all system with more coherence," the authors assert, "should be the fundamental objective of the task before the UN system relative to corporate activity and human rights." The statement calls for a strengthening of redress mechanisms, as an integral aspect of whatever solution is devised to address the transnational business-human rights issue. The document is available from the United Nations Official Documents Service (ODS) by searching on the symbol A/HRC/8/NGO/45.
