RSS (file format)

RSS is a family of web feed formats used for web syndication. These RSS feeds provide a way for users to passively receive newly released content, such as text, web pages, sound files or other media. Users can be notified of new content without having to actively check for it. Thus, they provide an efficient way of delivering specific types of information to users who express a demand for such information. RSS feeds are operated by many news web sites, weblogs, schools, and podcasters. A number of RSS feeds are featured in entries found in the Clearinghouse's Resource Directory. They are less commonly found on the web sites of government agencies and NGOs.
