Since signing the Aarhus Convention in 1998, the European Community has been adopting legislation both at the Member States level and at the level of its institutions and bodies in order to fully implement this international legalinstrument. This paper focusses on the Aarhus Convention per se and provides an overview of what has been done at European Community levelregarding the implementation of the Convention. The author finds that The “Aarhus process” is not a staticone. New proposals for legislation, plans, programmes and policies relating to the environment will be under continuous scrutiny with a view of incorporating the Aarhus requirements.
