Such agreement was reached at a meeting between Ukrainian Environment and Natural Resources Minister Eduard Stavytsky and European Commissioner for Environment Janez Potocnik, Ukraine's Mission to the EU told a UKRINFORM reporter.
"Following a meeting between the Ukrainian delegation and EU Commissioner for Environment Potocnik, the sides started a high-level EU-Ukraine dialogue on environmental issues," reads the statement.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed prospects for deepening and intensifying cooperation between Ukraine and the EU on issues of ecology and environmental protection, which will arise after the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.
Stavytsky informed Potocnik about the state of the implementation by Ukraine of its national strategy and national action plan on environmental protection for 2011-2015 and thanked the EU for providing respective budgetary support.
The parties also discussed prospects for the creation of a non-governmental regional ecological center of Ukraine, whose activity will be aimed at raising awareness on the issues of environmental protection and strengthening the role of civil society in these matters.
The sides spoke about the fulfillment by Ukraine of its commitments under multilateral agreements on environment, in particular, the Espoo Convention and the Aarhus Convention, and also discussed the results of the recent United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20).
Ukraine assured the EU that it will fulfill the obligations of "Kyoto Protocol"
