Switzerland: Federal government defends itself against UN criticism

In response to the letter from Michel Forst, the UN Special Rapporteur on environmental defenders, the Federal government stated that Switzerland is not obligated to intervene in the dispute between rainforest conservationists and their plaintiffs, citing the principle of the separation of powers. Additionally, it stated that the rights of environmentalists are constitutionally guaranteed, and the relevant provisions of the Aarhus Convention in this matter only apply in the country concerned.
