On 6 May, different citizen groups will convene to protest in the streets of Murcia for the protection of the Mar Menor lagoon. The protesters demand a recovery and subsequent conservation of the site for future generations. Furthermore, they denounce the lack of interest of the administration during the last decades, which has allegedly not complied with regulations on the conservation of natural areas, prevention of soil pollution or water management. The organisations, which have organised the demonstration emphasize that the management of the lagoon must be based on the rights of citizens to access information and participate in decision-making. These rights are stipulated in the Aarhus Convention.
