Seminar on the Aarhus Convention and public access to environmental information to be held in English and Turkish

The UNDP Programme “Partnership for the Future” in co-operation with UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) is pleased to announce the organization of a one day seminar on the Aarhus Convention and related EU Directives. The seminar “The Aarhus Convention on access of public to environmental information”  will be held at the Major Conference Centre, Nicosia, Cyprus, on 3 July 2006 from 9:00-17:00.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

 

The seminar will provide participants with:

 

Ø       A detailed introduction to the Aarhus Convention and its three pillars: Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-Making and Access to Justice in Environmental matters;

Ø       An introduction to the EU Directives adopting the Aarhus Convention;

Ø       Challenges for the implementation of the Aarhus Convention and identification of the roles of the relevant target groups (NGO, Private Sector, Institutions, etc.);

Ø       Description of accessible networks of information related to the Aarhus Convention and related EU Directives.

 

The seminar is meant for maximum 50 people from civil society organizations, the private sector, Municipalities, NGOs and professionals involved in environmental issues.

 

The working language of the seminar will be English with simultaneous translation into Turkish. Registration will be done on first come first served basis.
