Greenland - NGOs: How should public participation improves

NGO Coalition, which was founded in October 2013 and has common goal of improving citizen involvement in mining activities through a series of workshops, discussed how better it could be ensured in large-scale projects and other resource activities.

The results of the discussions were recently handed over to Naalakkersuisut and Tuesday presented to the press.

NGO Coalition recommends maximum transparency in decision-making and citizen legally enforced so that citizens' rights to be involved ensured through law.

Need specific law on citizen 

Chairman of Transparency International Greenland Anders Meilvang writes in a press release:

- This should be achieved by the development of a special law on citizen involvement and by acceding to and comply with relevant international conventions, in particular the Aarhus Convention and the UN Convention against Corruption. It is important that the rights of the Conventions are signed into law of Greenland and observed.
