Germany: CDU pressures for tunnel-solution

The German state parliament in Düsseldorf is currently discussing the reconstruction of the A1-motorway over the Rhine. As many residents in the area prefer to build a tunnel rather than a bridge on stilts, a member of the local Christian Democrat Party (CDU) was asked to visit the bridge and support the citizens will. NGL, a network against noise, fine dust and other harmful emissions, has now filed a complaint to the Aarhus Convention’s Compliance Committee. It accuses the German government of not having provided an alternative solution to the motorway on stilts, although other versions would have intervened less with the environment.
