Experts look to enhance implementation of multilateral environmental agreements in the Balkans

"Bridging the Gaps", a UNEP project aiming to strengthen national capacity in Balkan countries to implement multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), will hold its first project meeting in Vienna, 26-27 June 2006.  The first phase of the Project addresses legal implementaton of MEAs, their integration with the European Union environmental acquis and the thematic areas of chemicals/waste and biodiversity. 

Experts attending the First Regional Project Meeting, which marks the end of the Project's opening phase, will analyze findings and results and chart the way forward. The second phase of the Project is expected to develop recommendations for consideration at the upcoming Environment-for-Europe Ministerial Conference, in Belgrade (10-12 October 2007). 

The "Bridging the Gaps" project is supported and funded by the Government of Austria.
