EU: Brussels goes into infringement mode over Austria’s failure to adopt waste, rail rules

The European Commission has launched infringement proceedings against Austria for failing to comply with new EU rules on waste and railway standardization by the 2020 deadline. Austria is specifically criticized for issues in waste management and railway area rules, and for not ensuring public rights to access a judicial review of all relevant acts or omissions within the scope of EU environmental law under the Aarhus Convention. Austria has two months to respond before the Commission takes the matter to court.
