Competition for civil society organizations opens in Armenia and Georgia

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tbilisi announces a competition for civil society organizations within the framework of the Matra (Social Transformation) Small Embassy Projects Programme in Armenia and Georgia. The aim of the Matra programme is to support the transformation to pluralist, democratic statehood under the rule of law in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. It supports activities that promote reform of the state, its institutions, civil-society organizations and the connections between them. The competition is open to Armenian and Georgian local governments, academic institutions, "think tanks", and NGOs.
The competition includes, among other topics, support of the following main areas of activity: Legislation and law; Human rights/minorities; Environment/NGOs; and Strengthening environmental authorities. Examples of activities that can be funded: conferences, publications, research, seminars on specific themes, workshops, awareness-raising campaigns, etc. Project proposals, preferably in English, must be submitted to the Embassy by 3 February, 2007, 14:00 local time, either hand-delivered or send electronically. The maximum contribution per project is equivalent of 15, 000 Euros. The application form can be found on the Embassy's web-site: www.dutchembassy.ge
