Comment: Russia in need of a Green Revolution

2017 has been declared the Year of Ecology by Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources Sergey Donskoy. One of its pillars seems to be the formation of a Russian model of green economy, already targeted two years ago.
Nevertheless, Russia has still not ratified the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention, 1991), has neither signed nor ratified the Aarhus Convention. According to Mrs. Schwartz, Director of Conservation Policy WWF Russia, this omission and thus the lack of public access to information about the impact Russia’s industry has on the health of its citizens, is the main factor preventing ecological modernization of the Russian economy.
