Arnika - Citizens Support Centre, together with partners from Kazakhstan, organizes several events to draw public attention to Kok-Jailau case: ski resort project, that could seriously damage nature of the national park in Tien Shan mountains.   29. 6. - Sunday, 17:00 - 18:30 Side event: Does the Aaarhus Convention help the citizens of Eastern Europe and Central Asia protect their environment? * Are NGOs making strong enough effort to promote informational openess and involve public in decision making on national level? Can we do more? * Why some governments fail to implement or comply with Aarhus Convention? * Which role should play international financial institutions and corporations? Alternative country situation reports on Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine. Venue: Maastricht Exhibition & Conference Centre (MECC), Forum 100, room 0.11   30. 6. - Monday, 8:00 - 9:00 and 13:00 - 14:00 Performance: Human rights of Nibbled Apples? Come and taste an apple from Almaty, origin of apple and tulip. Come and a feel a state where the citizens are curious what will happen if they try to demand the rights secured by the Aarhus Convention. Venue: at the main entrance of the Maastricht Exhibition & Conference Centre (MECC), Forum 100   30. 6. - 2. 7. - Monday - Wednesday, 9:00 - 17:00 Photo exhibition: Kok-Jeilau - endangered beauty Exhibition of 12 photos of various authors from Kazakhstan presents beauty of the nature of Ile-Alatau National Park belonging to Tien Shan mountain range. Just here, in the heart of mountains, construction of large ski resort is planned. The project would not only damage the nature, but also privatize the land and make it unacessible for local people.
