113 environmental defenders have been killed so far in 2017

The Guardian and the NGO “Global Witness” teamed up in the attempt to record all deaths of environmental activists across the globe. To date, 113 activists have been killed in 2017 alone. The website also identifies the most dangerous places for environmental defenders since they started recording the deaths in 2015. The Aarhus Convention protects environmental activists and other persons exercising their rights in conformity with the provision of the Convention.
