Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC)

The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) is an independent, non-profit and non-political international organization established in 2001 under an agreement signed by the Republic of Kazakhstan, the European Commission and the UNDP. The CAREC assists in the exchange and dissemination of information on issues of environment and sustainable development; implements a grants programme for regional and transboundary projects; promotes public participation in environmental decision-making; performs policy analysis relating to environmental issues and sustainable development, and interaction between governments, NGOs and other stakeholders; and provides a framework for regional co-operation at a governmental and non-governmental level. CAREC maintains an on-line environmental events calendar. The website is in English and Russian. Some CAREC publications are also available in Kazakh.
