Russia: The court has fined the "Ecodefence" for refusing to register as foreign agent

Today, the court fined in Kaliningrad "Ecodefence" under Article 19.34 of the Administrative Code 300 thousand rubles on the basis of the case brought by the Office of the Ministry of Justice of the Kaliningrad region. Composition of the "offense" is that the organization is not registered as a "foreign agent" freely.

On July 21 the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation included "Ecodefence" Registry "foreign agents", where it is still the only environmental organization. As stated in the official response to the Ministry of Justice a request for inclusion in the register of the organization, has served the cause of the activity directed against the construction of the Baltic NPP in the Kaliningrad region, as well as the campaign "Ekozashchita" aimed at Russia's ratification of the Aarhus Convention on Access to environmentally relevant information. Ecology Action has led to the fact that a number of European banks have refused to invest in the construction of nuclear power plants, and in mid-2013 construction of the station has been stopped. "Resistance construction of Baltic NPP, as well as all other actions" Ekozashchita "aimed solely at protecting the environmental rights of citizens.
