Working Group of the Parties considers draft long-term strategic plan

The eighth meeting of the Working Group of the Parties to the Aarhus Convention will consider a draft Long-term Strategic Plan  for implementation of the Convention at its meeting on 31 October - 2 November 2007, in Geneva. 

As a first priority, the Parties would work towards full implementation of the Convention and its Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers by each Party and to encourage and support their use by the public, according to the Mission Statement contained in the draft.

Other stated priorities cover increasing the number of Parties within the UNECE region and encouraging States outside the region to acceded to the Convention or implement its principles. 

The draft Long-term Strategic Plan was prepared by the Bureau on the basis of draft elements prepared by the Expert Group on Long-term Strategic Planning.
