Uruguay: Latin American governments must stop violence against environmentalists, says expert

As the UN Special Rapporteur on Environment and Human Rights, John Knox, visited Uruguay he urged Latin American governments to make greater efforts to counter violence against human rights and environment defenders. Knox encouraged Latin American governments to learn from experiences of the implementation of the rights to information, participation and access to justice elsewhere, in particular from the Aarhus Convention, and said he hoped that a regional agreement on the topic would be reached by the end of this year.
